DAVAO CITY – The Triathlon Association of Davao (TriAD) together with the Department of Tourism – XI conducted the Flanax DurianMan Triathlon last May 2, as one of the major events for Visit Davao Fun Sale 2015.
The sporting event involves the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance sports, including swimming, biking and running. The DurianMan Triathlon features two categories, namely, standard Olympic and sprint categories.
Elite triathletes Mitch Robbins and Monica Torres topped the overall Olympic categories, while Davao City locals Dexter Nonato and Razel Ledres topped the overall Sprint categories.
Mitch Robbins beat fellow Australian elite triathlete Michael Murphy by one minute and 26 minutes with an official time of 1:55:06; Murphy’s official time was 1:56:46. Haroon Cali of Davao City placed third with 2:17:47.
Torres topped the female class for Olympic category with an official time of 2:17:22, beating fellow elite Filipina triathlete LC Langit (2:21:53). Nikki Te placed third with 2:41:40.
For the sprint category, Dexter Nonato topped the male class with the official time of 1:14:12, beating Eleazar Gumela II (1:16:06) and Ray Lester Bajado (1:17:01) who placed second and third respectively.
Razel Ledres bested the female class in the overall sprint category with an official time of 1:34:27, beating Leslie Herrero (1:34:37) and Rox Ang (1:38:59) who placed second and third respectively.
Triathletes completed the 1500meters swim, 40km bike and 10k run for the Olympic distance category, while sprint categories include 750meters swim, 20km bike and 5km run. For this year, the race started in Villa Josefina Resort Village in Toril, Davao City and ended at Felcris Centrale along Quimpo Boulevard.
DurianMan race director Jeremy James Sarona said that this is the third and the biggest triathlon event they have organized so far. A hundred and fifty-seven triathletes joined in last Saturday’s race.
Aside from cash prizes, overall winners won roundtrip airline tickets. The Flanax DurianMan Visit Davao Fun Sale Triathlon was co-presented by Flanax, led by Ms. Larisa Lim, Sr. Product Manager -NNA Adult and supported by DOT11 and AirAsia.
